Short answer: start with one repeated, low-risk task that has a clear owner and a measurable result. AI is useful when it reduces reviewable work; it is a poor fit when errors would reach customers, change records, or make decisions without reliable human control.

Look for time-consuming text and knowledge work

Small businesses in Armenia often have useful information spread across messages, documents, spreadsheets, and one person’s memory. AI can help organise or draft from that material, but it should not become a new source of truth.

Good first candidates include summarising inquiries, drafting replies for review, turning notes into a checklist, finding an approved procedure, classifying incoming requests, or preparing a first version of routine content.

Three practical starting points

Inquiry triage and reply drafts

AI can identify the subject of a message, extract the customer’s requested date or service, and prepare a draft response. A person should verify the facts, price, availability, and tone before anything is sent.

Internal knowledge retrieval

An approved set of policies, service descriptions, and procedures can support faster answers for staff. Access controls and source citations matter: the answer should point back to the document it used.

Recurring administrative drafts

Meeting summaries, task lists, product descriptions, and standard follow-up messages are often suitable because the output is easy to review and correct before use.

Use a simple pilot test

  1. Choose one task. Define where it starts, who reviews the result, and where the approved result goes.
  2. Measure the current baseline. Record time spent, volume, common errors, and delayed work before adding AI.
  3. Test with representative examples. Include Armenian and any other language your customers actually use, plus difficult and incomplete cases.
  4. Keep human approval. During the pilot, nothing customer-facing or operationally important should bypass the accountable person.
  5. Decide from evidence. Continue only if the saved time and quality improvement justify the cost, maintenance, and risk.

Protect customer and business information

Do not paste personal data, confidential client material, passwords, payment information, or unrestricted business files into a public AI tool. Confirm what the provider stores, where processing occurs, whether data is used for training, who can access it, and how deletion works.

Where Armenian personal-data rules or another privacy regime apply, identify the purpose and legal basis, minimise the data, define access and retention, and assess any international transfer separately. A vendor’s GDPR feature or standard contract does not automatically resolve Armenian transfer requirements.

Warning signs that the project is mostly hype

  • The proposal begins with a model or chatbot before naming a business task.
  • No one owns review, correction, monitoring, or shutdown.
  • The expected benefit cannot be measured against the current process.
  • The solution needs broad access to data that the task does not require.
  • A reliable rule, template, search function, or simple automation would solve the problem more cheaply.

The useful question

Do not ask where AI can be added. Ask which repeated task costs enough time to justify a controlled experiment, and whether AI is safer and simpler than improving the workflow without it.
